Coconut broom making facility is presented the presidential merit

There are 80 households business on making coconut broom at My An commune, Thanh Phu district, Ben Tre province. It is regconized as vocational village. Mr Nguyen Van Truong – President of People’s Committee of My An Commune said, this commune is continuous for branding refenrendum for this vocatinal village, and also preparing next steps to establish brooming cooperative.

In 90th decades,  Ms. Huynh Thi Luyen Em( Sau Luyen)’s making coconut broom agent, which is located at An Hoa Hamlet - My An Commune - Thanh Phu district, just only began operation under household size.

In early 2011, this facility was joined into  the  Developing Business for Rustic  Poor  ( Ben Tre Project DBRP ) and had received the  concessional funds totaling 320 million. Whereby, Ms. Sau Luyen had  invested for reserving, repairing and upgrading her infrastructure and technical equipment. Beside supporting the loans for her,  Ben Tre DBRP Project  had corporated  with this facility to open  2 course for training brooming technique  at Quoi Dien and My An communes . There was total 50 attendants, including  22 women and 25 poor households. Since then, this manufactor has been making about 30,000 brooms per week. This solved employment for approximate 60 employees, who are almost women with the daily average income is 70,000 VND/ person. In the end of 2011, there are 15 women, who worked in this facility, were out of poverty and this  made Ms. Sau Luyen and local  gorvement  feeling so excited. 

 

 

In order to developing  the brooming facility of Ms. Sau Luyen even so, contributing to the local, are going to solve  employment for poor women in this commune and the neighboring communes, in 2012, it was funded for according to Public-Private Partnership Model (PPP had funded amount 48.9 millions VND in total 97 millions VND for construction) by  DBRP Project. This, to achieve the objective for  training,  hiring outsourcing brooming employee and consumption and contributing to job and insure incomes for poor women in My An commune and some surrounding areas.

Currently, this  facility has many kinds of product, including 2 ranks of coconut leaf stemmed broom : 1st type  -  length 80 cm in size, weighs 700gr;  2nd type - 70 cm long, weighs 600gr. Source material is coconut stems, which are purchased from Mo Cay Nam, Mo Cay Bac, Giong Trom districts. The availability is   40,000 brooms / month. Currently, this facility has agents in many provinces, such as : Ben Tre, Vinh Long, Tien Giang, HCM City, Dong Nai, Binh Duong, Vung Tau, Hanoi, .... But the  main markets is Tien Giang province.

Because of Ms. Sau Luyen’s efforts and the positive contributions in creating jobs and stable incomes for poor women in the past year,this facility has just presented  Prime Minister Merit  , in “Creative women's Day 2013”, which was held in Ha Noi for  2 days- 1st and 2nd October, 2013, by Vietnam women's Union, Vietnam, the World Bank in Vietnam, the UN agency on gender equality and empowerment of women in Vietnam.
